We setup this Taco Bar Dramatic Play Area in our house to pretend we’re having a taco party today! It’s such fun! I love seeing my kiddos imaginations work. Now, to prep a real family taco party for dinner.
We love dramatic play at our house! Hands down it’s one of our favorite things to do throughout the day. So, I try to come up with crafts and activities that keep the imagination at work.
My kids were introduced to the book Dragons Love Tacos last Summer (affiliate link for your convenience). And it’s still one of their favorite books to grab off the library shelf to read.
Dragons Love Tacos is such a cute book! The little boy walks you through how much dragons love tacos, how to get dragons to your taco party, and why to avoid putting spicy salsa on the taco bar. What will happen if you accidentally set it out?! The suspense!
That part is my son’s favorite part! Especially with my sound effects (lol).
Since we wanted to pretend we were having a taco party today, we made pretend play tacos. It took me less than 10 minutes to setup for the kids. I hope you have so much fun!

Let’s get started on setting up the Taco Bar for Dramatic Play!
Taco Bar Dramatic Play – Materials
- yellow felt
- red craft foam or cardstock
- green tissue paper
- brown construction paper
- scissors
- brown colored pencil
- small salad plate
- 3 plastic bowls
- 1 plastic serving spoon
Taco Bar Dramatic Play – Instructions
Step One. Trace the small salad plate on the yellow felt with the brown colored pencil. Cut the circles out. We added detail to our taco shells by tapping the brown colored pencil all over the shells.
Step Two. Cut the red craft foam/cardstock to look like diced tomatoes.
Step Three. Cut wavy strips of green tissue paper and slightly wad them up to look like lettuce.
Step Four. Cut squares of brown construction paper and wad them up into little balls to look like ground beef. My kiddos enjoy wadding up paper. They can do that forever (not literally, but it does keep their attention for quite awhile).
Step Five. Set out all the taco bar ingredients in plastic bowls, read the book and have a taco party!
So simple. So fun!
My friend Ashley from The Littles and Me has the cutest printable that will make your Pretend Play Taco Bar even more fun: Let’s Taco Bout it Family Night. Use this printable for a real taco night too!

We did a House and Taco Craft last summer that goes perfectly with the matching game! It’s a great activity to do with the kids when you’re learning the letter T. Pin it for later: Dragons Love Tacos House and Taco Craft

I am IN LOVE with this idea!! I’ll definitely be ordering this book. Thanks!
It is a favorite book in our house still. We read it all the time. There is a part 2 of the book that I want to get to read to my kids.
