The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything Dice Game

After reading Room on the Broom everyday, my son wanted another Halloween book to read. So, we have been reading The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything.

The book has repetition in it, so it makes it easier for my son to retell the story to me.

By kindergarten, children will be asked to retell the main points of a story. They absolutely don’t have to master the skill now. But, introducing them to the idea is a great way for them to have a great kindergarten year.

The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything is about a little old lady who goes on a walk to gather herbs and spices in the forest. Along the way she runs into shoes, pants, a shirt, gloves, a hat, and a giant pumpkin head. They all make different noises that are fun to repeat. They follow her home and she has a great idea of what to do with them!

My son and daughter love it! Now we are reading this book everyday. And there is a short 10-minute video on YouTube to watch. See it below:

My son gets a kick out of seeing his books come to life on tv. So, this is perfect to watch after your child is familiar with the story.

I wanted to make the story even more fun for my kiddos. So, I made a dice game for them to play and review the sounds in the book.

We are having so much fun reading The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything and playing this dice game to review the sounds in the story! Make the craft or print the FREE printable!

The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything Dice Game – Instructions

Step One. Print out a cube template and trace it onto cardstock. Cut it out. I created a blank cube template to use: Blank Cube Template. Or if your printer allows it, print the template on cardstock.

Step Two. Fold the cube and glue the flaps. I know I only put the word “glue” on a few tabs, but gluing all the tabs is better. Secure the edges with tape.

Step Three. Doodle the shoes, pants, shirt, gloves, hat and pumpkin onto cardstock. Color the shoes, pants and pumpkin. I outlined all the doodle with black permanent marker.

Step Four. Cut the doodles out and glue to the cube. One per side. You can draw directly onto the squares before assembling the cube if you’d like. I didn’t have a template made when I made a cube. I totally eye-balled it looking at a template. And I had blue cardstock. So, the doodles on blue cardstock wouldn’t have turned out so great. I worked with what I had at the time.

The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything - Cube Complete

If you are not a doodler, don’t worry. I got you covered. I made a cube with all the doodles on it! Print out: Dice Game for The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything. Make certain to print it out on cardstock. I printed it on regular paper to try it out and my daughter thought it was a great idea to smash it. EEK! If your printer doesn’t allow it, glue the regular paper to cardstock and cut it out.

Now, you’re ready to play the game!

It’s rather simple. Just take turns rolling the dice. Whatever it lands on ask, “what sound does this make?” or “what do the pants do?” Play it over and over again until your child tires of it.

You can also print out 6 of the cubes and have your kiddos stack them for a sequencing activity.

I hope you have so much fun!
